Al-Athbāt wal-Fahāris
This course offers a systematic introduction to later-era sources detailing the Asanid leading up to the books of Hadith. Many books will be quoted, explaining the most relavant sources to locate the chains of scholars in different times and places. The instructors chains to al-Shama'il will serve as the base, where the narrators from Egypt, India, Syria, and Hijaz will be discussed. Students will learn how to read and interpret these texts, extract chains of transmission, and identify the maqrūʾāt and masmūʿāt within a narrator’s scholarly network.
