Course Overview
Al-Tadhkirah fī ʿUlūm al-Ḥadīth by al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn al-Mulaqqin is a concise primer introducing the science of Muṣṭalaḥ al-Ḥadīth. Written by one of the leading hadith authorities of the eighth century, the text presents the foundational terminology and classifications employed by the early muḥaddithūn, providing students with a clear understanding of the language through which the science developed.
This one-day intensive is designed to give students a structured overview of the discipline while working through the entire text. Beyond simply defining technical terms, the course explores how these terms were understood and applied by the early scholars, the gradual development of the science of Muṣṭalaḥ, and provides examples to further help understand these terms.
