Third Year of the Alimiyyah Program
The third year of our Alimiyyah Program marks the transition from foundational Arabic studies to applying those skills directly to the Noble Qur’an and Hadith. Students will build upon their study of Arabic Syntax (Naḥw) and Morphology (Ṣarf) while advancing significantly in their study of Fiqh, beginning Mukhtaṣar al-Qudūrī alongside Uṣūl al-Fiqh.
Qudūrī will be taught through more than a simple translation. Students will learn to apply the Qawāʿid Fiqhiyyah and Qawāʿid Uṣūliyyah studied in Ḥanafī Uṣūl 101 and Uṣūl al-Shāshī, developing the ability to understand and analyze the reasoning behind Hanafi rulings.
Students will also continue developing their Arabic through Sharḥ Qaṭr al-Nadā, with a focus on entering more advanced discussions in Naḥw and becoming familiar with the different grammatical schools and approaches.
Alongside these core subjects, students will begin Balāghah, Uṣūl al-Ḥadīth, and Manṭiq. Additional studies in Sīrah and Tibyān will support continued reading practice and strengthen students’ overall engagement with the Arabic language and Islamic texts.
Third Year Curriculum
– Mukhtaṣar al-Qudūrī — This will be studied as a proper matn, rather than through a simple translation. Students will engage with the text through the application of Qawāʿid Fiqhiyyah and Qawāʿid Uṣūliyyah, developing a deeper understanding of Hanafi legal reasoning.
– Qurʾān Translation & Linguistic Tafsīr — Five Ajzāʾ — Students will go beyond translation by studying the iʿrāb and linguistic dimensions of the Qurʾān. Selected works of linguistic tafsīr, such as al-Taḥrīr wa al-Tanwīr and Tafsīr Abī al-Suʿūd, will be consulted to explore the possible meanings of verses while appreciating their rhetorical and linguistic features.
– Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn — A foundational study of Prophetic ḥadīth, introducing students to the meanings of the narrations while developing familiarity with works of Gharīb al-Ḥadīth and cultivating an appreciation for the beauty and guidance of the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
– Uṣūl al-Fiqh 101 & Uṣūl al-Shāshī — Uṣūl al-Fiqh is a cornerstone of sound scholarship. Uṣūl al-Fiqh 101 provides an introduction to the discipline followed by a comprehensive first-level study of Hanafi Uṣūl. This is followed by a more critical and detailed study of Uṣūl al-Shāshī.
– Sharḥ Qaṭr al-Nadā — Students will advance their study of Arabic syntax, moving into more intricate grammatical discussions while becoming familiar with the differing approaches and schools within the study of Naḥw.
– Al-Tamhīd fī Uṣūl al-Dīn — An introduction to the foundational principles of Uṣūl al-Dīn and Islamic theology.
– Al-Bayqūniyyah & Al-Nawawiyyah — A beginner-level introduction to Uṣūl al-Ḥadīth and the foundational terminology of the discipline, accompanied by practical application through the study of al-Arbaʿīn al-Nawawiyyah.
– Balāghah — Miʾat al-Maʿānī wa al-Bayān — An introductory study of Arabic rhetoric, providing students with their first structured exposure to the sciences of Balāghah and their application to Arabic texts.
– Manṭiq 101 — An introductory course in Islamic logic, establishing the foundational terminology and principles necessary for further study.
– Mirāḥ al-Arwāḥ — An advanced study of Arabic morphology (Ṣarf), building upon students’ previous foundations and developing greater precision in morphological analysis.
– Sīrah — A study of the life of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with an emphasis on application, reflection, and connecting the lessons of the Sīrah to students’ broader Islamic studies.
– Al-Tibyān lil-Nawawī & al-Dāʾ wa al-Dawāʾ li-Ibn al-Qayyim — Selected works studied primarily to strengthen students’ Arabic reading ability, increase fluency with classical texts, and develop greater confidence in independent reading.
