A comprehensive study of Tajwīd theory, designed to explain the governing principles behind correct Qur’an recitation.
This course provides an extensive study of the science of Tajwīd, the discipline through which the Qurʾān is recited as it was revealed. Rooted in the classical Islamic scholarly tradition, Tajwīd ensures the precise pronunciation and preservation of the Qurʾān across generations.
This program offers structured exposure to all the components of Tajwīd. It is suitable for those seeking to build a solid understanding of the subject, as well as for students who have previously studied Tajwīd and wish to review, organize, or reinforce their knowledge. Covering the core principles of articulation (makhārij), characteristics of letters (ṣifāt), and essential rules of recitation, the course presents Tajwīd in a clear, systematic, and engaging manner.
By the end of the course, students will have gained a well-rounded understanding of the topics of Tajwīd, enabling them to approach Qurʾānic recitation with greater awareness, accuracy, and confidence.

Course Structure
Foundations of Tajwīd:
The course begins with an introduction to the definition, importance, and legal ruling of Tajwīd, along with the virtues and etiquettes of reciting the Qurʾān. Students will also learn the proper method of beginning recitation through the istiʿādhah and basmalah.
Articulation Points (Makhārij):
A structured study of the articulation points of the Arabic letters, covering the various regions of the mouth and throat. This section provides essential insight into correct pronunciation.
Characteristics of Letters (Ṣifāt):
Students will explore the defining qualities of the Arabic letters, including both opposing and non-opposing characteristics, and how they influence pronunciation and clarity.
Core Rules of Tajwīd:
The course examines key rules such as Ikhfa, Idgham, Qalqalah and the rulings of lām and rāʾ, among others, providing a practical framework for understanding correct recitation.
Rules of Elongation (Madd):
A comprehensive overview of Madd, including its types, causes, and application in recitation.
Waqf and Muṣḥaf Conventions:
The final section introduces the rules of stopping (waqf), their impact on meaning, and the symbols of the muṣḥaf, along with a review of common mistakes and frequently mispronounced words.
