Intensive Overview
The Talweeh Summer Intensive is designed to provide students with a structured introduction to three foundational Islamic sciences: Hadith Studies, Manṭiq, and ʿAqīdah. Across forty-eight hours of live instruction, students will engage with carefully selected introductory texts that will serve as gateways to further study in the Islamic tradition.
The program is ideal for beginner and intermediate students who have already begun their Arabic studies and wish to build a strong academic foundation before advancing to more specialized works. Alongside studying the texts themselves, students will gain familiarity with the terminology, rationale, and objectives of each discipline, enabling them to approach future studies with greater confidence and clarity. Each text will be followed with practical application where required, thus reinforcing the points covered and paving the way to create a malakah (innate aptitude) for each science.
Al-Manẓūmah al-Bayqūniyyah
Study the science of Mustalaḥ al-Ḥadīth through the celebrated thirty-four-line poem that has served as an entry point for students of Hadith for generations. Concise, accessible, and easy to memorize, the poem introduces many of the central discussions of the discipline, including the classifications of narrations and the terminology employed by the scholars of Hadith. The text will be taught within the broader framework of Mustalaḥ al-Ḥadīth, introducing the relevant topics that may have been left out by the author whilst explaining the purpose and significance of each concept. This will be accompanied with practical examples that help students understand, analyze, and apply the principles discussed throughout the poem.
Al-Arbaʿūn al-Nawawiyyah
Among the most widely studied collections in the Islamic tradition, al-Arbaʿūn al-Nawawiyyah gathers forty-two narrations that encapsulate many of the foundational principles of Islam. Covering topics related to belief, worship, character, sincerity, and legal principles, the collection provides students with a direct connection to the words of the Messenger ﷺ while introducing them to the essential themes upon which the religion is built. Through studying these narrations, students will strengthen their understanding of the foundations of the dīn while cultivating a deeper appreciation for the Prophetic tradition. Additionally, the topics covered in al-Bayqūniyyah will be applied to the ahadith covered in al-Nawawiyyah when need be.
Introduction to Manṭiq
Manṭiq is one of the key tools employed throughout the Islamic sciences, assisting students in developing sound reasoning, accurate definitions, and structured argumentation. Despite its importance, many students find the discipline intimidating due to the technical language often used in introductory texts. This course presents a beginner-friendly introduction prepared specifically for Talweeh Academy students, simplifying core concepts and demonstrating their practical application. Like it or not, all sciences are written in the language of Manṭiq, and only a student well-versed in it can fully appreciate the depth of later scholarship. By the end of the course, students will possess a clear understanding of the purpose of logic and the fundamental discussions that underpin the discipline.
ʿAqīdah Ahl al-Sunnah
This primer, authored by Shaykh Ṣafwān Dāwūdī, introduces the essential beliefs of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah in a clear and accessible manner. The text gathers the principal matters of creed that every Muslim should understand, providing students with a structured framework through which to study faith, belief, and orthodox Sunni doctrine. Particular attention will be given to understanding the evidence, meanings, and practical implications of these beliefs, enabling students to develop a sound and grounded understanding of Islamic creed.
