Mufti Mohammad Daud Khurshid began his Islamic journey at a young age, completing his memorization of the Qur’an (Hifz) at Jamiah Islamiyah Abu Bakr in Scarborough. He continued his studies at the same institution, earning his prestigious Alimiyyah degree upon completing a 6-year course, where he delved deeply into the Arabic language (Nahw, Sarf, and Balaghah), Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), Qur’anic exegesis (Tafsir), and the books of Hadith, amongst other Islamic sciences. Alongside his Alimiyyah studies, Mufti Mohammad Daud also obtained authorization (Ijazah) in the Ten Recitations (Qira’at) from the path of al-Shatibiyyah and al-Durrah.
Iftaa and Islamic Finance
After completing his ‘Alimiyyah studies, Shaikh then specialized in Islamic law, completing a two year rigorous Iftaa course from Jami’ah Qasimul ‘Uloom in Scarborough. During this period, Sheikh penned many detailed and thoroughly researched Fatawa, as well as lengthy articles pertaining to modern issues. Along with this, his pursuit of knowledge led him to the Malaysian based International Center for Education in Islamic Finance, where he is currently enrolled in an online master’s degree in Islamic Finance
Studies in Madinah
After teaching for some time, by the grace of Allah (SWT), Mufti Daud was accepted at the renowned Islamic University of Madinah. Currently enrolled in the Faculty of Shari’ah, he is specializing in the Hanbali Mazhab in Usool and Fiqh, amongst other subjects. In addition to his university studies, Mufti Daud continues to expand his knowledge through extensive studies under the guidance of esteemed scholars. He has benefited from the expertise of Shaykh Safwan Dawoodi in the sciences of Qira’aat, Asanid, Hadith, Usul, and Nahw, and has also undertaken extensive studies of Hadith under Sheikh ‘Ali bin Fahd Aba Butain.
Teaching Experience
Upon graduating from his ‘Alimiyyah, Shaikh began teaching books of varying levels in various fields, honing his delivery skills while also solidifying his knowledge. Aside from the courses he has taught on Talweeh, he has also taught students other books in Nahw, Fiqh, Usool al-Fiqh, Mustalah, Hadith, Tafsir, Qira’ah, and more. The Shaikh continues his studies in Madinah, while contributing his expertise to the community as an instructor, writer, and mentor.
Expanded Scholarship
Throughout his academic journey, Shaikh has received ijazat (‘ammah and khassah) from many senior scholars. This list includes the likes of Shaikh Qasim al-Bahr and Shaikh Muhammad bin Abi Bakr al-Habashi from Makkah, Shaikh Muhammad ‘Abd al-Muttalib al-Attar and Shaikh ‘Imad al-Deen Ibn Kathir from Egypt, Shaikh Fadhl Mahmood Rabbani and Shaikh Muhammad Siddiq Saleem from Pakistan, as well as Shaikh Habib Ja’far al-Saqqaf and Shaikh Ahmad ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Ahdal from Yemen, amongst others.
