Sheikh Hamza Aktas

Sheikh Hamza Aktas began his Islamic journey with the memorization of the Qur’an, completing his Hifdh at the age of 19. This marked the initial step in a life committed to sacred learning. He went on to enroll in the rigorous ʿĀlimiyyah program, studying across several institutions—beginning at Windsor Islamic Academy, then continuing at Dār al-ʿUlūm Canada in Chatham, and finally completing the program at Al-Khalil Academy in Toronto. His studies spanned the core sciences of the Dars-e-Niẓāmī curriculum, laying a comprehensive foundation in classical Islamic scholarship.

Advanced Studies in Aqeedah

Driven by a desire to deepen his theological understanding, Hamza Aktas traveled to Turkey to pursue specialized studies in ʿAqīdah. There, he studied for two years at Madressa IKAN under the guidance of distinguished scholars such as Dr. Hamza al-Bakri and Dr. Ali al-Umari. He is currently in the final year of this three-year specialization, furthering his understanding of Islamic creed in both its classical and contemporary contexts.

Iftaa Studies

In pursuit of further specialization, Sheikh Hamza studied Hanafi Fiqh under Shaikh Mu’ayyad Khalifah after which he completed two years of intensive Iftāʾ training at Dār al-Raqeem (Dār al-Iftāʾ wal-Irshād) in Istanbul. Under the mentorship of seasoned scholars, such as Mufti Ahmad Raza, and other students of Shaykh al-Islām Mufti Taqi al-ʿUthmānī and affiliates of Dār al-ʿUlūm Karachi, he studied the applied sciences of fatwā writing, legal reasoning, and contemporary fiqh issues. He continues to serve at the Dār as both a part-time instructor and contributor to the fatwā department.

Hadith studies

His passion for traditional scholarship also pushed him to study under renowned scholars of Syria, including Sheikh Mujeer al-Khateeb upon whom he studied Mustalah, Sheikh Safwan Dawoodi, and Sheikh Yahya al-Ghawthani upoon whom he heard books of Hadith. These experiences enriched his academic and spiritual formation, allowing him to benefit directly from authentic chains of transmission and diverse scholarly traditions.

Expanded scholarship

Over the course of his studies, Hamza Aktas has been honored with several ijāzāt, both ʿāmmah and khāṣṣah, from senior scholars across the Muslim world. Among them are Mufti Taqi al-ʿUthmānī and Sheikh Muṭīʿ al-Ḥāfiẓ, reflecting the recognition of his commitment to traditional learning and the depth of his scholarly training.
